Regular Full TimeLowell, MALCHCID#: 738519490Type: Regular Full TimeCategory: ClinicalPosition SummaryLowell Community Health Center is opening a new pharmacy and seeking motivated pharmacy technicians to support our values and mission, while providing a positive work environment to support professional growth and development. The Certified Pharmacy Technician shall report to the pharmacy manager and assist the pharmacist in operating the pharmacy by performing daily functions such as prescription processing, filling and ordering.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Accepts and processes new and refill prescriptions from patients or their representativesCollects demographic information needed to maintain up-to-date patient profiles including allergiesReviews patient profiles for completenessFiles and retrieves pharmacy recordsHandles telephone communication for non-discretionary tasks including but not limited to:Prescription refill requestsQuestions concerning pharmacy operations, such as hours and directions and pricingOrdering of medication or suppliesOrders, receives and verifies invoices for medication, devices and supplies as outlines in pharmacy policy and procedures. Stocks shelves, rotating stock, with received order. Reports any overages, missing items or mispicks to the wholesaler for credit or replacement.Assist pharmacist with inventory management, including, but not limited to:Removing outdated or recalled stock and isolating from inventoryDeducting outdated or recalled stock from pharmacy system inventoryPrepare stock for return to wholesaler, manufacturer or reverse distributor.Uses the pharmacy system to enter patients, prescription and insurance information to process a prescription. Choose correct language according to patient's preference.Uses pharmacy system to bill, clear rejections and rebill prescriptions to third party to ensure payment to the pharmacy.Prevents duplicate discounts by using the correct inventory and insurance when process prescriptions.Prepares processed prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist including but not limited to:Retrieving medication from stock or robot, dispensing the correct quantity of liquid, pills/capsules, etc. for the prescription being processedLabeling the prescription per protocolPlacing finished prescription order in bin in chronological order according to pick up time, being mindful of the bin color and meaningRetrieves, reverses and/or rebills any Returns to Stock medications not picked up by the patient after 10 business days.Operates Point of Sale system or other payment systems to process patient payments and purchases.Assist the pharmacist in maintaining a clean, orderly and smoothly operating pharmacyPerform other similar and related duties as required or directed.CompetenciesTo perform the job successfully, the following competencies must be demonstrated.Attendance/Punctuality - The Certified Pharmacy Technician shall be at work on time and prepared to work according to established schedule; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives on time for appointments and meetings.Lowell CHC Culture - Treats people with respect; inspires trust in others; works with integrity and principles; upholds and supports organizational values and goals; shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; takes responsibility for own actions; commits to teamwork and supporting the pharmacy team when necessary to reach goals; keeps commitments; asks for and offers help when needed.Communications - Speaks clearly and professionally in all situations; uses appropriate language, no profanity or slang; listens and responds well to questions; demonstrates the ability to speak to a group; participates in meetings; writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; keeps others adequately informed; selects and uses appropriate communication methods.Customer Service - Following the health center's mission, the Certified Pharmacy Technician shall provide caring, quality and culturally competent health services to all customers. This may include responding promptly to customer/patient need; responding to requests for service and assistance; managing difficult or emotional encounters or asking for assistance to mediate.Job Knowledge - Competent in required job skills and knowledge; Exhibits the ability to learn and apply new skills; keeps abreast of current industry development as it pertains to pharmacy technicians, medications and regulations; displays understanding of how job relates to others; maintains confidentiality per policy and regulations; fluent in job software including the pharmacy system, Microsoft Office, wholesaler and reverse distributor systems; uses resources effectively; pursues training and development opportunities; adapts to new technologies; keeps skill up to date; follows policies and procedures; responds to management directions; completes all organizational trainings.Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information; works well in group problem solving situations; adapts to changes in the work environment; changes the approach or method to best fit the situationPlanning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently; develops realistic action plans; sets goals and objectives. License must be in good standingNationally certified with Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board (PCTB) and be in good standing.Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of timeUse hands and arms to reach and grabOccasionally stoop, crouch or kneelLift and move 10 or more poundsAbility to focus and adjust visionWork in a moderately loud environmentAbility to work in fast paced environmentBilingual preferredPhysical Requirements:Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.Some lifting, pushing or pulling required up to 25 pounds.Ability to perform CPR (chest compressions).WORK ENVIRONMENT:Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors, nurses and other department staff. Occasional requests to change work areas to cover another priority area to meet patient needs. Occasional stress and pressure caused by multiple simultaneous demands. May be exposed to various body fluids and/or infectious diseases. Universal precautions and techniques are included in orientation and the availability of protective wear is supported and encouraged when the employee is at risk for exposure.
